The ideal applicant should:

  1. Be a food professional employed in companies, academia, or research institutes.
  2. Have an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and willingness to share their knowledge with other participants of the New Product Development Training 'NPD Skills'.
  3. Have relevant knowledge and experience in the food sector (please check each workshop on the Competency Framework to make sure it fits your needs and experience well – information about this can be found here: https://learning.eitfood.eu/)
  4. Have working knowledge of the English language (the course will be held in English)
  5. Be a citizen of one of the RIS countries, including:
  • EU Member States: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain.
  • Horizon Europe Associated Countries: Montenegro, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine.
  • Outermost Regions: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte and Saint-Martin (France), the Azores and Madeira (Portugal), and the Canary Islands (Spain).

Appraise the problem space to identify current and future needs.

Mobilise effective methodologies to generate new ideas.

Appraise the validity of new ideas and co-create sustainable solutions.

Critical thinking

Collect, analyse, interpret and report information to develop sustainable solutions to current and future challenges.

Appraise unintended consequences of any course of action to devise ethical goals.

Structure & Modules : Two courses with 3 and 4 sessions each

In the autumn edition of the NPD Skills Training, participants can attend the following online courses:

New Product Development in a VUCA world:

  • 7th October (9:00 – 12:15 p.m.) –  Food Industry in Times of Crisis (COVID 19 & the Effect of the Russian Invasion on the Food Industry)
  • 11th October (9:00 – 10:30 a.m.) – Global trends on the food market and the challenges for New Product Development process
  • 16th October (9:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.) – Post pandemic Food Industry Trends: Navigating New Product Development and Safety 

Technology Management for New Product Development:

  • 5th November (9:00 – 12:00 p.m.) – NPD Process and Technology Management in Food Manufacturing
  • 7th November (9:00 – 11:15 a.m.) – PEF Technology in Food Innovation
  • 12th November (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) – An introduction to stage-gate-based development
  • 14th November (9:00 – 11:00 a.m.) - Strawberries on K2 -Future of Freeze-drying in Food System Transformation

Each course offers a wide range of up-to-date knowledge which, combined with practical examples and a series of exercises, is guaranteed to enhance participants' skills!

Participants, according to their preferences and interests, have the possibility to apply to attend courses of their choice (participants should indicate their preferred set of courses in the application form). There will be several sessions in the selected courses. By signing up for a particular course, the participant is obliged to attend each session.

New Product Development in a VUCA world

This course aims to analyse and present the food industry landscape in the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) context. It focuses on uncovering emerging market trends and consumer behaviour shifts in the food industry, along with the arising challenges and opportunities for New Product Development. During this course, participants will gain the most recent insights into the current food industry scenario, equipping themselves with strategies and tactics necessary to address contemporary challenges related to the post-pandemic, war in Ukraine and sustainable development reality.

Technology Management for New Product Development

This course gives an opportunity to delve into the dynamic realm of technology in new product creation. During the course, participants will be able to learn from industry experts start-ups, national and global companies, gaining invaluable insights into the topics behind their technology-driven NPD processes. Along the way, participants will not only learn the stage-gate New Product Development process but also have the opportunity to experience the diverse technological applications in food product creation.

The entire programme of this New Product Development Training “NPD Skills” is jointly prepared and delivered by experts from academia, industry and research institutions, namely: University of Warsaw, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Aarhus University, PepsiCo International, Elea, Campden BRI Hungary Ltd., CSIC- Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, and EIT Food CLC North-East.

The whole NPD Skills Training is based on an innovative approach to teaching and learning and will involve interactive project tasks, sensory evaluations, video case studies, live food processing sessions, innovative teaching materials, and case study analysis.
