About : Series of workshops in Europe

The SMAF-Smart Agriculture Farming programme is a series of Seminars - Workshops organized in various European countries. Their purpose is to provide with an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with the adoption of data-based technological solutions for smart agriculture.

The seminar will present the latest advancements in new technologies and their contribution to enhancing the production and market of Agri-food products. At the same time, it will demonstrate valuable data/tools to understand how the digital transformation of agricultural supply chains benefits the agri-food sector in terms of competitiveness, efficiency, quality, transparency, traceability, and sustainability.

Towards this direction, a variety of fragmented technological frameworks have already been developed with the aim of digitizing the sector. However, the current challenge lies in integrating the existing technological frameworks used in modern digital agriculture and, furthermore, in building these unified interconnected ecosystems towards the creation of metadata products. Moreover, the global trend of integrating artificial intelligence into all areas of human activity is accelerating the need to expand the research goals of modern agriculture towards the full utilization of the collected information.

The potential of technology to transform the global agri-food system is immense, offering solutions to address climate and environmental challenges. Digital farming systems hold the promise of curbing and avoiding food waste at every stage of the supply chain. Likewise, embracing circular and sustainable business models can cater to the growing demands of well-informed consumers.

Since the effectiveness of technological progress depends on the adoption rate among users, especially small-scale farmers, it becomes crucial to cultivate specialized knowledge and skills for the full utilization of the advantages of digital technologies in agriculture.

Interconnection between all aspects of agriculture :

The shift towards Regenerative Agriculture, as a philosophy and approach to land management, invites us to consider how all aspects of agriculture can now be interconnected through a network of entities that develop, strengthen, exchange goods and services, transforming the previously linear operation of the agri-food supply chain. Innovative digital solutions can effectively contribute to the transformation of agriculture by combining traditional practices with sustainability.

SMAF in Hungary : Győr and Szentes - 1 day each in October 2025

This year, the SMAF Workshop will take place in two locations in Hungary, exploring the role of innovative agricultural technologies and AI in agricultural production. The workshop will present concrete solutions for water-saving irrigation, nutrient replenishment and the use of integrated control systems. In addition, an EIT Food funded innovation project, FitoWise, will be presented and tested by the participants. In addition to presenting the outcome product and technological operation of the FitoWise project, training will be given on successful EU proposal writing practices based on the lessons learned from the FitoWise project, and basic knowledge on project management will be provided. In this way, we aim to provide the workshop participants with knowledge that will help them to participate in as many successful agri-innovation projects as possible. The two sites will showcase solutions available for arable crops as well as innovations that can be applied in greenhouse production, as the sites can also be considered as pilot demonstration sites. In addition, the results of the ReWeemap project will be presented to the participants.

The events will be one-day long. After the presentations, a questionnaire will be used to assess the sector's needs and farmers' digital readiness. The events are free of charge thanks to the support of EIT Food, but registration is required.

Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Kóny, Farmer Training Center | Pattantyús Ábrahám Géza Street 2 Győr-Moson-Sopron County

Brief description of the event

In designing the workshop program, we have made every effort to consider the full range of challenges that farmers face today. These include stress caused by climate change, price fluctuations and volatility driven by global economic processes, and the pressing competitiveness issues resulting from rapidly evolving technologies.

Our aim through the presentations is to provide responses that offer ideas and showcase innovations from both technological and biotechnological perspectives, helping farmers identify practical solutions to specific crop production challenges. We are committed to demonstrating the practical applications of digital technologies, highlighting their observable benefits.

Furthermore, we seek to present the economic and cost-efficiency advantages associated with digitalization. Within the framework of the workshops, we also support farmers in navigating EU agricultural research and development funding opportunities. We share hands-on experience in preparing EU-funded projects—primarily those financed by EIT Food—including proposal writing and project management. In addition, we offer personalized consulting and comprehensive information.

The workshops also include field visits, where we present innovative practices and demonstrate the operation of jointly developed digital solutions.
