About this course
From Market Traction to Investment: Scaling Agrifood Ventures Sustainably equips entrepreneurs, innovators, SMEs, start-ups, researchers, and business development professionals with the knowledge and practical tools to transform promising agrifood innovations into investment-ready businesses. The course covers the complete commercialisation journey, from validating customer needs and achieving market traction to developing scalable business models, preparing investment strategies, and designing sustainable growth plans.
Throughout the twelve weeks, participants progressively develop an investment-ready venture growth plan for an agrifood innovation. The project integrates outputs from each module and culminates in a final investment pitch and venture development plan demonstrating market validation, commercialisation strategy, financial viability, sustainability, and scaling potential.
Participants will explore customer discovery, value proposition development, market validation, business model design, financial planning, investment readiness, pitching to investors, intellectual property considerations, and strategies for scaling innovation within the European and global agrifood ecosystem. Real-world case studies and practical exercises enable learners to apply entrepreneurial methodologies to their own ventures and identify pathways towards commercial success.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to evaluate market opportunities, strengthen the commercial potential of their innovations, develop investor-ready business strategies, and make informed decisions that support sustainable growth, resilience, and long-term competitiveness in the agrifood sector. The course is particularly relevant for organisations seeking to accelerate innovation, secure investment, and create lasting impact within Europe's evolving food system.

Assessment & Learner Certification
The course uses a combination of formative and summative assessment designed to evaluate learners' ability to apply data-driven approaches to agrifood innovation, crop performance assessment, and climate-resilient decision-making.
Assessment Task 1 – Market Opportunity and Value Proposition Analysis (20%)
Learners analyse an agrifood innovation or business concept to identify the target market, customer needs, competitive landscape, and value proposition. The assessment evaluates the ability to apply customer discovery principles, define market opportunities, and justify the commercial potential of the proposed solution using evidence-based analysis.
Assessment Task 2 – Business Model and Commercialisation Strategy (30%)
Learners develop a commercialisation strategy for an agrifood innovation, including the business model, market entry approach, revenue generation, customer acquisition, and growth strategy. The assessment evaluates the ability to select appropriate commercial pathways, identify key risks and mitigation measures, and demonstrate how the innovation can achieve sustainable market traction.
Assessment Task 3 – Investment Readiness and Venture Growth Plan (50%)
Learners prepare an investment-ready business proposal for an agrifood venture, integrating market validation, business model development, financial planning, scaling strategy, and investor communication. The project demonstrates the learner's ability to present a coherent venture growth plan that addresses commercial viability, investment requirements, sustainability considerations, and long-term business development. The final submission includes a written venture development plan and a short investment pitch presentation.
