About : Advancing innovation in the food industry!

Food Solutions and Ecotrophelia are joining forces to drive new product development and sustainability. This collaboration leverages the strengths of both programmes to create a dynamic course for emerging food solutions and to foster the next generation of food innovators. 

The programme develops a combination of: 

  • Entrepreneurial skills to help you become a sustainable kind of food innovator. 
  • Key technical skills tailored to your career ambitions in the sector. 
  • Build connections with professionals, mentors, and other participants in the food industry. 

A unique aspect of this programme is that you will not only be working on the development of your food product, but also learn all aspects of the company: R&D, marketing, packaging, quality, finance, etc, skills sought and valued by companies and helpful to help you build your start-up and increase the competitiveness of your future employing companies. Each course provides a distinctly different food  product development supported by your host University and gets feedback from experts from industry, research and science. 

The Food Solutions programme is designed for students who:

  • Have a passion and commitment to drive the transformation to a more sustainable food system 
  • Currently in, or have been in, a degree in one of the following fields include, Agricultural Sciences, Food science, Nutrition, Engineering, Packaging technology, Economics and Management, Business or Marketing, Informatics and Computational science. This Programme expects predominantly M.Sc. and to some extent also B.Sc. students.

The Food Solutions Programme has been awarded with the EIT Label since 2023. This accreditation is a quality seal awarded to excellent non-degree programmes with a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurial education, aligned with the EIT-specific learning outcomes and other quality criteria required for the EIT Label. ECOTROPHELIA is more than 3000 students who have participated in the competition, more than 1100 food innovative products, more than 200 universities and 22 countries who participated: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and United Kingdom.

Upon completion or during your entrepreneurship education, you can start a business in the food industry. You could earn your first merits from consulting or finding management work for a company. Here is a small selection of job ideas that could follow your entrepreneurship development program such as

Another focus lies in development or research for companies in the food sector, as well as public institutions. Corresponding jobs are offered by state or federal government agencies and offices, insurance companies, and private consulting firms. Additionally, consider finding an accelerator program to further support and scale your entrepreneurial endeavors. Accelerator programs provide resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities to help you accelerate your business idea or career in entrepreneurship.

Structure & Modules : 4-months learning-by-doing and competing programme

In Food Solutions Ecotrophelia Special Edition, you will benefit from entrepreneurship and product development education to produce an innovative, tangible food solution. You will be supported by your host University and the opportunity to participate in the Ecotrophelia competition to make impact, grow professionally and be recognized for your contributions to the food industry.    

Programme Structure  

🏁 Project Kick-Off:  

You will attend the live kick-off event introducing you to the problem your product aims to solve and goals and requirements of the innovations, such as functionality, design, quality, safety and performance. After this event, you will be supported in the next steps for problem definition and ideation. 

💡 Entrepreneurship Spine (E-Spine):  

There are four E-Spine learning blocks spread throughout the programme, each consisting of online self-learning material, quizzes and a final task. Each learning block is designed to help you develop your venture and viable business case that will help you showcase your product in the Ecotrophelia competition.  

🎤 Presentations & Feedback:  

There are two pitch sessions between the kick-off and final pitch event where you will present your idea so far as a team and receive feedback to help you steer and improve your solution.  

♻️ Prototype Development:  

Throughout the programme, you will be supported by your host University to design and develop a prototype for your solution as a team.  

🏆 Final Pitch Event and Submissions:  

Before June, you will submit your final assignments in Canvas and present your pitch live to a jury panel. There will also be prizes presented to winning teams.

FOOD SOLUTIONS FEE WAIVERS 2024: 

We are committed to ensuring that no exceptional student is excluded from the programme based on ability to pay. Fee waivers are available for excellent candidates. Decisions on waivers are made based from the evaluation of the application of the admission committee.
