This is a practice-oriented course, which will provide you with resources you can use in your courses. You will work on real assessment, design, review and improve them. You will learn, or refresh your learning of a wide range of factors coming into play when designing effective assessments and will be pushed to think more creatively about assessment and to review your own assessment practices.

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- to recognize the purposes and characteristics of formative and summative assessment, their link to the intended learning outcomes and the role of feedback in each of these assessment types;
- to critically evaluate different assessment formats in terms of learners, format, channel, duration, frequency and feasibility;
- to design summative or formative assessments for a specific group of target learners using the most appropriate assessment format.
This course targets, in particular, all EIT Food educators, both experienced and new to course designing, but it is open also to educators of other KICs. The learning can be applied to courses of any kind, short or long, in professional education or higher education, courses for children or courses for experienced professionals, as well as students. This course is therefore aimed at any educator who wants to learn how to design and use assessment effectively in any of their courses or who is experienced and would like a refresher.

Structure & Modules
This 3-6 hours course is structured in ten topics that start with a question to lead you to look at your assessment practices critically or will serve you as points to consider if you are designing your first assessment.
As you work through the course, you will find short quizzes at the end of each topic to test your understanding and some activities at specific points in the course that will allow you to apply straight away what you will learn. You will create new assessment resources for your courses.
If you aren’t currently designing any new assessments, this course will allow you to review the assessment strategies of the course(s) you are teaching and perhaps even feed your comments into the quality review process of the course(s).
